Eight Harriers strike gold at Surrey Indoorsby: Matthew Kiernan

Joe Yarde was amongst Croydon's many gold medallists at the Surrey Indoor Championships.
Croydon Harrier's sprinters, jumpers and throwers further cemented their reputation of being among the best in the county with a dominant display at the Surrey Indoor Championships at Sutton Arena.

The Harriers took home a formidable 16 medals in all, with eight athletes striking gold.

Elliot Safo followed up his National gold in Birmingham last week by taking the County U17 long jump title with a 6.74m leap, while Twinelle Hopeson set a championship best time in the U20 60m in 7.62s to take the honors.

U17 Cameron Smith rose to 5th in the 60m UK rankings after his gold medal winning run in a time of 7.06s, while his U15 club colleague Taiwo Kamoju stormed to victory in 7.57s.

Joe Yarde continued his dominance over the U17 sprint hurdles thanks to a 8.52s clocking to cross the line first.

Another sprinter Rohan Henry also enjoyed gold in the U13 boys race, although he was judged he clocked an identical time of 8.3s with another athlete in the final.

During Sunday's action, U20 Miles Casey won the gold medal in the Shot with a 11.90m effort on debut for the Harriers.

U17 Sheldon Brown followed up Elliot Safo's success in the horizontal jumps, to also secure gold, thanks to a 12.09m leap in the triple jump.
